Meeting Vietnamese Women: Everything you need to know
I asked a lot of men about whether or not they would like to meet a Vietnamese girl and why. Well, the answers were just like I expected. Everyone said yes and mentioned that Vietnamese women are hot and attractive to foreigners.
Yes, they are – I’m not going to argue over that. But they are a lot more than just pretty faces, and in this article, I’m going to pay enough attention to all those things that make them so special. But first, let’s start with some essential facts about the Vietnamese society.
Vietnamese female population | 49.8 million |
Share of dating service users in Vietnam | 3.3% |
English proficiency in Vietnam | 20% |
Top cities for meeting Vietnamese girls | Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue |
Liberal democracy index in Vietnam (how liberal/conservative the country is) | 0.13 (out of 1) |
Why I think Vietnamese women make great girlfriends
I’ve met girls from Vietnam on online dating websites and in real life. I also dated two Vietnamese girls and have been to Vietnam four times (I highly recommend this country to everyone who wants to have a great and affordable vacation in an exotic place).
What are these girls like? Here are some distinctive features I personally appreciated the most.
It’s about respect for elders, respect for husbands, and respect for kids, friends, foreigners, and just people in the streets. Vietnamese girls are kind-hearted. They believe you should treat everyone the way you would like to be treated, and that makes communication with them smooth and enjoyable.
There’s some kind of matriarchy in Vietnam, but not exactly in the positive sense. Local women work incredibly hard to provide for their families (men are usually employed, too, but it’s not enough) and then have a second shift at home. That’s not a good thing, but they’re never complaining.
You won’t meet Vietnamese girls who’d be really into the partying and drinking culture. It’s also hard to meet a female smoker in Vietnam.
They don’t see their femininity as a bad thing. The same goes for traditional family roles and family-mindedness at large. They like being traditional, and it suits them perfectly. There’s no pressure—just a natural desire to follow the old-school rules.
Vietnamese women: Hard facts
What do statistics say about Vietnam and Vietnamese society? Here are a few facts that seemed to be the most interesting to me.
- The number of marriage migrants to the United States is steadily high. For example, over 600 people from Vietnam applied for K-1 visas in 2022.
- Over 61% of Vietnamese women aged 20-24 are single.
- In 2020, the average age of first marriage for Vietnamese girls was 24.1.
- In 2022, the fertility rate in Vietnam was 2.019 births per woman, which is higher than in Europe and even many countries in Asia.
Consider that if you’re going to use a dating website or go to Vietnam to find a wife. Dating a Vietnamese girl is an enjoyable experience, but if you want to start a family, you should develop more accurate and 100% realistic expectations.
Vietnamese culture: What differences can you expect?
Cross-cultural dating will be tough only if you don’t know what you should expect from women in a particular country. We can rely on personal experiences, of course, but I prefer to combine them with the information I learn from the comparison of the 7 dimensions of culture.
In short, each culture is based on certain values, and if we compare them for the US and Vietnam, we’ll see the difference.
Universalism | Particularism |
---|
Rules or personal relationships, what matters most? For many Americans, obligations, laws, and common values are more important, while a Vietnamese woman will likely care more about her relationships with people. Such an approach has a direct impact on the personality. A Vietnamese girl is likely to be very friendly, polite, and sociable. Usually, women from this country get along well with their boyfriends’ and husbands’ relatives.
Individualism | Communitarianism |
---|
For most Vietnamese, community is everything. They are more group-oriented compared to Americans, who are usually more individualistic. So, other people’s opinions will never be an empty sound to a Vietnamese girl. She’ll try to dress to impress, behave to impress, etc.
Specific | Diffuse |
---|
Americans usually don’t get personally involved in business. What happens at work is supposed to stay at work, right? Vietnamese women are different. They always try to build great personal relationships with their co-workers and are likely to be way more concerned if any problems arise.
Neutral | Affective |
---|
Still, there are similarities between Americans and Vietnamese people, too. Both prefer to conceal emotions rather than display them. You shouldn’t expect big fights or conflicts, that’s for sure, but you both will need to learn how to share your feelings.
Achievement | Ascription |
---|
People from Vietnam are more relaxed and optimistic overall, and they care less about professional and personal accomplishments compared to people in the United States. So, if you’re looking for a girl who wouldn’t be incredibly ambitious and totally achievement-driven, Vietnam might be the right place to find a partner.
Sequential | Synchronic |
---|
Here’s another difference. Vietnamese women are much better at multitasking. That makes them great wives and mothers. They can focus on their family without damaging their own careers or forgetting about self-development at large.
Internal | External |
---|
A lot of Americans think that they can control their environment to achieve their goals. On the contrary, Vietnamese women believe that we can’t always change the circumstances and people and prefer focusing their actions on themselves rather than on others.
It’s not that hard to find a Vietnamese woman looking for a man abroad. The question is whether she’ll be a good match for you. If you are okay with the differences (after all, in many cases, the opposites attract), it might be a good idea. If not, there are other countries where you can find a girlfriend or a wife.
Best and worst places to meet Vietnamese women
Where to meet Vietnamese women? I have my personal list of the best and worst places to do it.
Best places to meet Vietnamese girls:
- English classes. Become an English teacher. I’m serious; it doesn’t have to be your full-time job, but if you’re going to teach English at local speaking clubs, you’ll easily expand your social circle and meet single Vietnamese women right there.
- Join Facebook groups for expats. In these groups, you’ll find multiple great local bars, information on different parties and social events to visit in the near future—and meet both foreigners and locals.
- Pubs and bars. The nightlife in Vietnam is great, at least in the big cities like Hanoi. Locals are super-friendly, and foreigners always get a lot of attention, so you’ll easily make friends and will have a great chance to find a girlfriend.
Worst places to find Vietnamese women:
- Hookup websites. Nearly all of those are scams. Local girls aren’t really into casual relationships, so the chance of meeting real women there will be low. If you want to go online and if you’re already in the country, choose Tinder. It will work better.
- Nightclub. Maybe I’m biased as I’m not a big fan of such places. But personally, I think all you can do there is spend money on cocktails for the girls, not find a girlfriend.
If you’re not going to visit Vietnam in the near future but still want to find a girlfriend in this particular country, you can meet single Vietnamese women online, on international dating websites or Asian mail-order bride websites.
Secrets to succeeding with Vietnamese women
You can meet a Vietnamese woman pretty easily, even outside the country. But you’ll also need to know how to impress her. Though there are no extra strict rules you should be aware of, I still have some recommendations based on my own experience:
- Be romantic. Try to be a bit more old-school; warm words and nice gestures will be much appreciated.
- Don’t try to be macho, and don’t pressure her. Local girls are far from being submissive or fond of rude men.
- Dress to impress. She’ll make an effort to look hot on a date. Make it, too.
- Tell her about your feelings. Declare your intent—it will be appreciated.
- Show genuine interest in her culture. Forget all the stereotypes you’ve heard. Just listen to her.
🎁 A bonus tip. As you can see, it’s not rocket science. Just treat Vietnamese girls well. They definitely deserve it.
Whatever you do, don’t do this with a Vietnamese woman
If you’re going to date Vietnamese women, I’d recommend you always keep in mind that they can give you as much attention as you want to get, but they’ll expect the same thing in exchange.
❌ Mistake: Give her as much attention as you can. I was flirting with a cute Vietnamese girl once, but it ended before it even started, and that’s absolutely my fault. I didn’t know much about local traditions at that time and was really busy at work, so I thought five days of not reaching out to her online was okay. It turned out it wasn’t. She interpreted my absence as a lack of interest and disrespect, and I failed to explain that I didn’t mean to offend her.
So, keep in touch, show affection, and demonstrate a clear intent in your relationship, and you’ll avoid mistakes I’ve made with a Vietnamese woman.
