Meeting European Women: How to get started and should you even do it?
I tried to ask men I knew about European women. Most were confused because they wanted to know which European country I was talking about, and when I listed them, I mostly heard a bunch of stereotypes about each. Some of them were actually true, some were wrong. After all, it’s always about distinguishing the truth from myths, and that’s what I’m going to do. But first, let’s take a look at some basic information about Europe.
European female population | 384 million |
Share of dating service users in GEO | 5-15% |
English proficiency in Europe | 15-100% |
Top cities for meeting European girls | Kyiv, Warsaw, Prague, Barcelona |
Liberal democracy index in Europe (how liberal/conservative the country is) | 0.1-0.9 |
Where to meet European women? As you can see, it’s an important question. European countries can be more liberal or have a low democracy index, all citizens may speak English or it may be the country where only the younger generation can communicate with foreigners. It’s all about learning more about the cultures and setting your priorities.
Why I think European women make great girlfriends
Though Europeans are very different, there are a few things they have in common, and I like them a lot. In part, that’s a personal opinion, but in some points, researchers agree with me (or I rather agree with them).
Take a post-Soviet country. Most women there will have at least a bachelor’s degree. Take a girl from Central Europe or Western Europe. In most cases, she’ll be well-educated, too. I also like that European girls have strong opinions about everything, from popular TV shows to politics and religion. With them, you never get bored or feel like you are talking to a pretty doll.
The attitude towards female beauty and beauty standards varies greatly from country to country. For example, women from Ukraine will prefer highly stylish looks, do beauty procedures monthly or weekly, and try to be the hottest girl in the street (considering the number of pretty women in this country that’s not easy at all). In Belgium or France, women will be way more relaxed and less concerned about beauty. In Romania, every girl in the street will wear a cute outfit and have makeup on. Still, they all are naturally pretty, and I definitely like it.
Sometimes people in Europe are genuinely hospitable and ready to do everything to help a stranger. In some countries, people are kind but not too sociable, but they will still help you when you get in trouble. Also, Europeans will hardly put any pressure on you or ask you questions you may find offensive. They are mostly well-mannered, and that gives them that unique charm, too.
Challenges you should be ready for when dating European women
Every man can meet European ladies online or offline. That’s a fact. But dating European singles isn’t always an easy trip. There are certain challenges you may face, namely:
- Cultural differences are cultural differences. There are enough differences between American society and European societies. Europeans are usually less individualistic yet more relaxed, less patriotic, and kinder or at least more well-mannered overall. It doesn’t seem to be a problem, but if you don’t listen to each other, you’ll face problematic situations all the time.
- The language barrier still exists. Of course, you’ll hardly experience any difficulty in the UK. However, if you decide to meet Ukrainian women, girls from Italy, or ladies from Romania, you’ll need to learn to be patient. Improving her skills will take time.
- What about religion? If you are not religious, it will hardly be a problem. But if you’re a believer, it may be harder for you to find European women with similar views, or you may face difficulty in a relationship with a girl from a European country.
If you want to meet a European woman, your decision will have a lot of benefits. But you should consider the drawbacks, too. If you have realistic expectations, you are less likely to face disappointments.
European women: Hard facts
It may be rather interesting to take a look at the figures when analyzing other societies, so I’ve collected a few interesting statistical facts for you.
- In many European countries, women far outnumber men. In particular, the gender imbalance (2-5% difference) is observed in Ukraine, Latvia, Armenia, Portugal, and Russia.
- In Europe, the mean age at first marriage varies greatly. In the EU, the youngest brides are Polish brides (aged 27), while in Sweden, women get married at 35.
- The number of online daters in Europe is constantly increasing. The non-paying segment of online dating alone has the value of nearly 70 million users.
- The proportion of single-person households is rising. For example, in the EU, from 20% (Malta) to over 50% (Sweden) of citizens claimed they were single.
There’s a huge room for dating. And again, the choice of a country is important. There's one thing that all countries have in common—more and more locals start looking for love online.
European dating culture: Are there any stark differences?
If you’re going to join one of the European dating sites or go to Eastern Europe, Germany, and the UK and meet a European girl there, you’ll need to keep one thing in mind. Cultural differences are real. You need to develop realistic expectations to avoid problems and disappointment. So, here’s what impressed me most. I hope it will give you a better understanding of what to expect:
- Background research isn’t always necessary. What if I say that not all Europeans google their Tinder dates before meeting them? People are more relaxed overall, and though they do spot red flags and check your list of hobbies, they don’t usually make an effort to learn as much as possible about you.
- Europeans don’t play games and take relationships more seriously overall. If you’re going to date European women, just consider that they don’t discuss every stage of a relationship. If you are seeing each other regularly, you’re already dating. And your relationship is already exclusive unless you have already discussed the opposite before.
- Sex is usually taken more seriously in Europe. It’s hard to say that a European woman is likely to be very conservative. It just takes place after 2-3 good dates.
- European women are much more shy. American girls are confident, and that’s attractive. When you’re on a date with a European woman, just give her some time and order wine. She’ll need time to relax a bit.
As you can see, there are not so many culture shocks. Basically, those who want to meet single European women need to adapt their strategies a bit. Also, there’s one recommendation I give to everyone who’s considering international dating. Ask questions about the dating culture and listen to the answers. That definitely works in the case of Europe, but isn’t always the right thing in Asia.
Secrets to succeeding with European women
I’ve dated Europeans, a lot of my friends have dated Europeans, and some even married them. I read a lot about different countries and traveled all across Europe (except for some places like Belarus and Moldova). Hopefully, I have enough expertise to give advice.
So, here are some recommendations I’d give to myself before I met European girls for the very first time in my life.
- Consider the particular culture. That’s very important. I mean, very. Single European women from Germany are nothing like Eastern European women. Want to succeed? Do some research.
- Buy flowers if you’re in Eastern Europe. If you want some extra points for yourself, you need to go to a restaurant with a nice bouquet. That, however, doesn’t work in Central or Western Europe.
- Show a lot of respect and interest in the personality. That’s the one-size-fits-all recommendation and the top priority for all European women.
- Don’t dress as relaxed as in the US. Your appearance shows how serious you are about what’s going to happen between you in so many countries, so yes, the dress-to-impress rule works in most countries of Europe.
- Avoid corny jokes about sex. That goes for online dating, offline dating—everything. You think she’ll be impressed? No, she’ll just think “Oh, he’s one of those” and stop replying.
That’s how European dating works, and as you can see, basically, you don’t have to do anything extraordinary. Moreover, if you meet European girls who genuinely like communicating with you, they will likely forgive you for some mistakes Americans may make. I mean, your date will hardly leave you in a restaurant if you wear old shorts.
Things you should never do or say to a European woman
European dating cultures are diverse, that’s true. But there’s a certain mistake that would ruin your relationship with a Ukrainian girl, a woman from Germany, and a hottie from Italy. Show that you’re not very responsible, and it will be over.
Again, there are differences between countries. In Germany, women want you to be career-driven and a strong professional. In Eastern Europe, women are seeking stability more than a passion for a profession. All are looking for a partner who’d be able to support them if something goes wrong—not just financially but also emotionally. If you show that her problem is something you can ignore easily or something that can make you disappear, things are not going to work.
